Introduction
DUMONT, a well-known name(brand) not only in Switzerland but around the world. It started out only to manufacture precision tools designed for watch making back in 1881 by the founder, Arnold Dumont. Now, it has tools for different applications which are mainly classified into the following categories:
- High precision industry (watch making),
- Electronics & Microelectronics,
- Biology & microscopy superfine tips,
- Medical
- Cosmetics
With more than 3000 kinds of tweezers made from high-tech steels and alloys and with the experiences gathered in 5 generations, Dumont tweezers are considered the best in the market.
Today Dumont still preserves its character as a purely family company with Richard and David Sgobero leading the company. The young and capable company Directors, equipped with knowledge & possibilities offered by modern technology, it will not be long that the brothers will once again push the established production skills in the precision tools making to a new height.
OctaLAB is pleased to be the Authorized and Official distributors of DUMONT tweezers in Asia.
Choosing the right tweezer
There are basically FOUR main points to consider for DUMONT tools:
i) Tips
ii) Curved/Angled tweezers
iii) Instrument length
iv) Steel and alloys
1) Tips on Dumont tools
Electronics & Industrial tips are specially produced for carrying out simple tasks that do not require high precision work.
Standard tips are made for high precision, consistently precise work, such as assembly under a microscope.
Biology tips tweezers are specially produced for high precision laboratory work. Tips on those tools are usually used for work under the microscope and are about twice as thin as tips on regular tweezers.
*Tips are hand finished and may have slight variation in measurement.
2) Curved , angled tweezers
DUMONT had developed a number of tweezers designed to make work easier. The angled and curved tweezers enable user to hold tweezers parallel or at 90° to the object while some(especially Surgeons) preferred using 45° angled tips. This flexibility will enable user to adapt to any working position. For work on tight jobs with restricted space, curved tweezers are recommended.
3) Tweezers length
Personal preference may be another consideration when selecting the length of a tweezers. While people with bigger hands may feel more comfortable using longer instruments, the position and feel of the tool in the hand will also help user to decide the appropriate length he/she needs. As a general rule, tools usually made to 115 mm~120mm in length; however, length ranging between 90 and 185mm were also produced.
4) Steel and Alloys
Different kinds of steel and alloys are used to make Dumont tweezers to suit different application. The hardness, magnetic properties, durability and corrosion resistance are some factors to be considered. Please refer to “Dumont Materials” to have a better understanding the properties of different DUMONT tweezers.
